New Kershaw
Our New Kershaw Centre, Bury supports pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, who have either been permanently excluded or are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream school. More recently we have adapted our provision to meet the needs of more pupils being referred to Ash Grove who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) or an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
At our New Kershaw Centre we have balanced and supported the transition from KS2 to KS3 and KS4 with our curriculum offer. The transitions in our KS4 offer have been catered for with the introduction of our own vocational offer.
Our curriculum at the New Kershaw Centre currently consists of the following subjects:
• Maths
• English
• PSHRE
• Food Technology
• PE and Physical Wellbeing
A pupil’s day starts at 8.50am with registration and finishes at 2.30pm. A 15 minute break and a 30 minute lunch is also built into the day.
The typical week offer for a pupil at the site is 25 hours.
Park House
Park House is based in Chesham and set within peaceful woodlands and playing fields. It is home to our Re-Engage pathway - a specialist provision supporting vulnerable pupils who have experienced prolonged disengagement from formal or alternative education. This pathway offers a short-term, targeted intervention aimed at helping students re-establish positive learning habits and reintegrate into more structured educational settings.
To meet the diverse and complex needs of our pupils, each student follows a bespoke timetable tailored to their individual circumstances. The provision is delivered by experienced staff using a mentoring-led approach, with learning environments adapted to support emotional regulation, engagement and personal growth.
The curriculum at Park House currently includes:
- Wellbeing
- English
- Maths
- Home Cooking Skills
- Therapeutic Interventions
- Creative Activities
- PSHRE (Personal, Social, Health and Relationships Education)
Students on this pathway access a flexible provision ranging from 10 to 12.5 hours per week, depending on their individual needs and stage within the pathway. This structure allows for a gradual build-up of stamina and engagement, supporting each pupil’s journey towards more sustained learning.
Whittaker Street
Whittaker Street, our specialist vocational centre in Radcliffe, is home to the Employ pathway. Industry-style spaces - including construction rooms, a commercial-standard training kitchen, salon facilities and a well-equipped fitness suite - provide safe, structured environments for hands-on learning.
Pupils build practical skills, confidence and work habits that lead to meaningful qualifications and destinations, following a tailored timetable delivered by experienced vocational staff. A coaching, routines-led approach, clear safety expectations (including PPE where required), targeted regulation support and high staff presence keep learning calm, safe and purposeful.
Our core vocational pathways are:
• Construction
• Hospitality
• Hair and Beauty
• Sport & Leisure
Alongside this vocational qualification, students also receive English and maths to strengthen core skills; Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) to build independence, wellbeing and life skills; and a World of Work strand focused on careers, employability and workplace behaviours.
Each placement begins with induction (site rules, H&S, PPE) and a gradual build of vocational blocks alongside core learning. As readiness increases, hours and complexity of workshop tasks scale up to prepare pupils for next steps, including further education, training or employment.
